Handmade tortillas deserve a vessel created with just as much care. Crafted by hand from individual planks of locally sourced Mexican Oak Wood, our Tortillero would look as natural in an art gallery as it does at the center of your table.
MEXICAN OAK TORTILLERO
As ancient fixtures in the culinary landscape of the region, Molcajetes have been used for centuries to grind spices, grains, and more. Ours is carved by hand from a single piece of volcanic rock by a team of three brothers, who also sourced the volcanic basalt just miles from their open-air workshop in Guadalajara.

ABOUT THE COLLABORATION
Founded by sisters Marcela and Tania Medina, Duplo Design is a Guadalajara-based design firm where age-old tools meet modern product design. It was born as an homage to the ancestral techniques and artisan craftsmanship that Mexico is known for.
For the Duplo Design x Made In Collection, Marcela and Tania partnered with local artisans to create a set of contemporary kitchen tools inspired by the “ancestral” culinary traditions they grew up with in Guadalajara. Each piece was crafted by hand, and it shows in the attention to detail. Discover the care and tradition that goes into each Molcajete and Tortillero they create.

ABOUT THE COLLABORATION
We partnered with Guadalajara-based Duplo Design to bring these tools to life. Each Tortillero was handmade by Duplo Design founders and sisters Marcela and Tania Medina, who individually shaped each one from planks of Mexican Oak. The Molcajetes were each carved from a single piece of volcanic rock by a team of three brothers, who also sourced the volcanic basalt just miles from their open-air workshop in Guadalajara. Both the Tortillero and the molcajete feature Duplo Design's double-notched signature.

Six years ago, the Medina sisters started Duplo Design to meld modern product design with traditional handmade artisanship. Both former industrial design students, they're drawn to the inherent variations found in natural materials and the entirely unique pieces that these materials create.
